Painting is Fakery

Yes Fakery, not bakery, as we move away from Rodrigo's bread, to Roberto Coromina's sculptural paintings. I have really liked helping Roberto with this piece since some of my ideas for 3-dimensional paintings have been similar, but I never really figured out how to do it like this. I think when Roberto gets the rest of the fragmented canvases up it will be a pretty convinving and compelling illusion of canvases coming out of the wall. So is it painting? sculpture? installation? Roberto is great to talk to because he is so adamant about the sort of magic and illusionism of the painted image, and I think there is a special irony in the 3d image of a painting, emphasizing its objecthood, and while being illusionistic, it is also somehow much more "real".
