A Couple of Painters

David Webb, from the UK uses abstracted references from his surroundings, which he sort of simplifies to focus on a single or a few elements. It is interesting, because when he first arrived, there was a lot of the Brooklyn bridge showing up in his work, but that image of the bridge structure was stripped down to its elements as he progressed. He does not seem concerned with producing a masterpiece with each painting, so he makes a lot of studies, and focuses on a form he likes. Guillaume Mathivet, from France, is also using a sort of reductionist perspective, although his graffiti influences actually lead him to use additive means (by painting over to hide) to simplifiy his forms.
